چکیده

Coulomb excitation has proven itself as an important tool for studying the structure of both stable and exotic nuclei.[1– 4] The phenomenon has been well-studied in a nonrelativistic context[5] and studied perturbatively in a relativistic one[6] by Alder and Winther. More recent experimental studies have considered multiple Coulomb excitation at relativistic energies.[2–4] Many calculations of high-energy Coulomb excitation include the effects of Coulomb deflection, but only through the effective impact parameter used in a straight-line trajectory.[7–11] The curvature of the trajectory is usually not taken into account. The curvature of the Coulomb trajectory increases the distance between the projectile and target, relative to a straight-line trajectory, and is thus expected to decrease Coulomb excitation, which is strongly dependent on the separation. In the following, we derive the semiclassical coupled-channel equations for Coulomb excitation and then use them to compare excitation cross sections obtained using straight-line and Coulomb trajectories.

We study the effects of channel coupling in the excitation of Be projectiles incident on heavy targets. The contribution to the excitation from the Coulomb and the nuclear fields in peripheral collisions are considered. Our results are compared with recent data on the excitation of the 1 2 − state in Be projectiles. We show that the experimental results cannot be explained, unless very unusual ...

Wellbore Trajectory Optimization of an Iranian Oilfield Based on Mud Pressure and Failure Zone

Determination of the borehole and fracture initiation positions is the main aim of a borehole stability analysis. A wellbore trajectory optimization with the help of the mud pressure may be unreasonable since the mud pressure can only reflect the degree of difficulty for the initial damage to occur at the wellbore rather than the extent of the wellbore damage. In this work, we investigate...

Selection rules for transport excitation spectroscopy of few-electron quantum dots.

Tunneling of electrons traversing a few-electron quantum dot is strongly influenced by the Coulomb interaction leading to Coulomb blockade effects and single-electron tunneling. We present calculations which demonstrate that correlations between the electrons cause a strong suppression of most of the energetically allowed tunneling processes involving excited dot states. The excitation of cente...

Scaling laws and higher-order effects in Coulomb excitation of neutron halo nuclei

Essential properties of halo nuclei can be described in terms of a few low-energy constants. For neutron halo nuclei, analytical results can be found for wave functions and electromagnetic transition matrix-elements in simple but well-adapted models. These wave functions can be used to study nuclear reactions; an especially simple and instructive example is Coulomb excitation. A systematic expa...

Freeze-out configuration in multifragmentation

The excitation energy and the nuclear density at the time of breakup are extracted for the α + Au reaction at beam energies of 1 and 3.6 GeV/nucleon. These quantities are calculated from the average relative velocity of intermediate mass fragments (IMF) at large correlation angles as a function of the multiplicity of IMFs using a statistical model coupled with many-body Coulomb trajectory calcu...
